Purpose of the role:
The candidate will be part of the growing Perpetua Client Management Team and will be ideally suited to an experienced, purpose-driven business development and sales professional looking to join a fast-growing boutique investment firm seeking to scale across multiple strategies. This resource will be specifically responsible for growing new business from new clients, predominantly institutional or aggregators. This position is ideally suited to an individual with already established experience, sound product knowledge and possessing solid and credible industry networks. The candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills and direct previous experience in working in a similar role in a buy-side investment firm.
Summarised duties and responsibilities:
- Primarily responsible for growing new business from new clients, predominantly institutional or aggregators.
- Secondarily responsible for servicing and managing relationships with existing clients and responding to client queries and requests.
- Responsible for generating leads by initiating contact with potential clients and identifying high probability sales opportunities
- Responsible for driving the complete sales cycle from initial customer engagement to closed deals, using various direct methods such as calling, face to face meetings and networking
- Keep detailed notes on prospect and customer interactions on CRM system and update CRM System regularly
- Provide feedback on market trends, competitive threats, unmet needs, and opportunities
- Managing all aspects of relationships with new clients, including co-ordination and presentation of technical pitches, follow-up meeting, liaising with client management teams internally on submission of client questionnaires; RFP’s as well as mandates and management of the on-going relationships through regular meetings and updates on the performance of their funds
- Effectively articulate Perpetua investment philosophy, process, products and performance to prospects, clients, consultants, and to differentiate our firm from competitors
- Empower oneself with knowledge through participation in investment team activities to ensure up-to-date technical knowledge of the company’s products, investment philosophy and portfolio positioning
- Increase assets under management for firm’s investment products and vehicles
- Provide regular reporting on activities, new sales opportunities, client focus and product initiatives to the respective management team
- Maintain involvement in industry and networking organizations in order to foster relationships with the consultant community and prospective clients.

Education and experience:
- Relevant and applicable university graduate qualification
- At least 5 years of working in business development or institutional business sales roles within the buy side of the investment management industry.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office skills – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
- Other digital and technology/automation/programming-based skills will be advantageous.

A Business Analyst at Perpetua is a professional position where the individual is required to provide support in the overall “business side of the management of clients” part of the business (this is distinct to the investment analyst who is more responsible for the “investment side of the management of clients”). This would include components of the servicing of clients; the business’ development (assisting in growing client base); components of client account management such as administration; performance; risk. In addition, the role includes elements of understanding the business of investment management as a whole and the business of the firm as a whole within the industry.
The Business Analyst position by its very nature is one which has a fluidity to it and success is achieved in the ability to bring a thoughtful and highly professional approach to the required tasks. The career progression could be multi-fold to ultimately a Head of Clients role; a Head of Operations role or even ultimately Chief Operating Officer/CEO/MD of an investment firm.
*The Business Analyst position is also offered as a “trainee” option on contract (Trainee Business Analyst). This trainee role is typically offered to graduates who have no work experience at all.
Summarised duties and responsibilities
Overall:
- Assist in delivering high quality professional client service and content from Perpetua in a timely manner
- Develop an understanding of how the different divisions of Perpetua interact
- Understand Perpetua’s investment approach and how we go about delivering client outcomes; maintain an updated understanding of this by taking opportunity of understanding the portfolios and stocks
- Develop an understanding of the different outsourced service providers and the data provided in order to service our clients
- Understand and be able to use the different systems required in servicing clients
- Build knowledge of how the South African investment management industry operates
- Develop an understanding of the different stakeholders in the industry and how they interact with Perpetua
- Communicate clearly and effectively when dealing with clients and consultants
- Understand the different client mandates, funds and products
- Understand the different benchmarks and fees and how they pertain to client mandates
- Prepare industry research that will assist in better client service
- Assist in ad hoc business and investment projects
Client queries and servicing:
- Ensure that new client queries are acknowledged and responded to within the relevant time frames allowing for enough time for reviewing
- Ensure ongoing client requests are timeously submitted
- Draft responses to client questions for review
- Ensure manager research databases are appropriately and timeously updated
- Assist in the preparation of due diligences and RFPs
- Ensure all client interactions are logged in the CRM system
- Understand the different client reports and assist in preparing client reports
- Assist in the preparation of client commentaries
- Assist in drafting the quarterly investment and portfolio commentary for the quarterly reports
- Understand the proxy voting process and policy and assist in prepare the quarterly voting summary reports for clients
- Assist in preparation of the MDDs and other client documents
- Prepare and update Top 15 share report for use in client sessions
- Assist in the organization of content and attendance at client events
Client presentations:
- Assist in the timeous updating of slides for presentations
- Develop an understanding of the presentation content
- Contribute to developing new slides for client presentations
- Attending client presentations as required and gaining the skills and knowledge to perform client presentations
Technical knowledge:
- Develop an understanding of performance calculations and methodology and be able to perform calculations
- Develop a deep understanding of the Perpetua investment philosophy and process
- Build investment knowledge on the securities in our portfolios to be able to assist in responding to client queries
- Develop an understanding of risk, the applicability of the different risk measures to the way we manage money and the ability to calculate risk measures; and how the portfolio risk reporting is compiled on a monthly and quarterly basis.
